Breast Reconstruction

Breast Reconstruction

Dr. Sullivan dedicates a substantial portion of her services to help breast cancer patients restore a normal appearance following surgery for breast cancer. Breast Reconstruction surgery often enhances the patient’s recovery by reducing the psychological pain of losing a breast.

Reconstruction may be performed during the same surgical session as a mastectomy (Immediate Reconstruction) or any time after cancer treatments have been completed (Delayed Reconstruction).

Dr. Sullivan employs a full range of techniques for reconstruction, the choice of which is determined by the physiology of the patient and her preferences. Either the patient’s own tissue may be used (Autologous, or Flap Reconstruction) or a silicone or saline implant may be used. If the remaining breast tissue will not support the desired size of implant, an expander may be used to stretch the skin  prior to using an implant for reconstruction.

Please take a few minutes to view Dr. Sullivan’s Video explaining the options available for reconstruction.
